The Trip To the DMZ

We went to the DMZ one day, the land between the North and the South. It was a rainy cold day, which was appropriate for the setting. There was lots of barbed wire and soliders with guns.

This scultpure expresses the hopes of South Korea, to be reunited with North Korea. If find it amazing that they are interested and seeing reconcilliation with people who wish to hurt them. This is Gordon taking a close look. We watched this crazy video as an introduction. I could not understand it. Take a quick look. It doesn't do justice to how they try to put a postive spin on a terrible situation.

North Korea dug four tunnels under the DMZ to invade South Korea if need be. They were discovered after a N. Korean traitor revealed them. They collapsed three of the tunnels and kept the other intact to show the North Korean intent. Over 30000 troops per hour could be used to invade. They would not allow us to take pictures underneath.

We had our tour guide from the DMZ to show us the tunnel. Here he is with one of the international pastors. We go into a tunnel 300 feet down.

This funny little DMZ soldier character apparently makes the DMZ more family friendly.
