Where did you get the name?

It takes us a long time to choose a name. We read books and try to decide but we always wait to see what he/she looks like before we decide on a name.

We chose Pierson Jacob for several reasons. Pierson is Kate's mom's maiden name. It is a derivative of the name Peter, which means Rock. Jacob was Scott's father's middle name. Jacob comes from the Bible. While there are many stories of Jacob in the Bible, one primary story was how we wrestled with God all night long wanting his blessing. God blessed him with a touch on the hip and from that point on, he walked with a limp. It was a daily reminder for a person who doubted God's existance that God was real and present in his life. We pray that Pierson Jacob would always know that God is real and present.

On a personal note, Kate and Pierson came home from the hospital today and are resting comfortably. Scott leaves tomorrow for four days on a school trip to Willow Creek Community church in Chicago. Kate's mom, Nancy will be staying to help Kate with the kids and the baby. In addition the other wives have offered to help and one has already brought a meal. This community is great. They decorated my office cubical with streamers and "It's a Boy" tape and they decorated our front door with a welcome to Pierson Jacob. Stay tuned to more updates...
