Let it Snow, Let it Snow!!!

It seems like all it does here in Kentucky is snow. Today we are getting 1-3 inches. So far the kids have missed maybe 5 days (i think) and school will be extended till June 1st. We had planned on going on vacation for two weeks for the first weeks of June but will have to wait and see what will happen.

This week has been a busy week. It took a day or so to recover from our Tennessee trip. As soon as I recovered, we had and Advanced leadership class from Dr. Jack Connell. Jack is the associate Dean here and his perspectives on leadership were very encouraging. Basically, his story is that leadership can be developed and taught. That is what happened to him. WHen he left seminary, he basically loved people and preached for seven years. After attending the Beeson program and seeing so many leadership models, he began to take seriously his role as leader and his church in Rochester NY grew from 200 - 1500 in 11 yrs. He helped us think about how we start our ministries in our new settings, talked about finances and building campaigns, and working with staff.

The major project for this class is a church visit where we study the leadership culture. Next Thursday Kate and I leave for Hickory North Carolina for a church called Christ Church. A former Beeson pastor grew this church from 150-2000 in 8 yrs and I get to spend time with him, his staff, volunteers, and the like to see what God has done there. We got a hotel with a pool and will celebrate Max's birthday while we are there.

This morning I watched One Night With a King. It is a movie which just came out on video about the story of Queen Esther from the Bible. It portrayed the Biblical story well and it helped us get into the heart of the characters. Sometimes characters in stories seem so flat. I like background material which helps us to see the richness of their actions, fears, etc. While it was slow moving at parts, I think you would enjoy it if you rented it.
